Digitising a contract-farming operation from soil to cold store

An end-to-end platform covering farmer onboarding, seed allocation, every field operation of the growing season, grading and inventory at cold stores, and payment. Staff and farmers use it in the field, across four languages.

The challenge

Contract farming produces an enormous quantity of operational truth that historically lives on paper: which plot, which variety, when it was sown, what was sprayed, what came back at harvest and what it graded to. Without that record the company cannot pay a farmer correctly, trace a quality problem to its origin, or plan next season's allocation.

Our approach

  1. 01

Modelled the agronomy honestly rather than abstractly. Soil, land preparation, planting, fertiliser, irrigation, pesticide, rouging, dehaulming, germination checks and harvest each became a first-class record against a specific plot.

  2. 02

Built for the device and the network the user actually has: a responsive progressive web app, localised into four languages, with OTP login over SMS rather than passwords.

  3. 03

Moved everything slow or bursty onto a background worker tier: reconciliation, document generation, scheduled reporting. Field staff never wait on it.

  4. 04

Wired in agronomy sensor data and payment reconciliation as scheduled jobs, so the operational picture updates without anyone remembering to press a button.
